About Me

My photo
SparkytheCrash_Gadget
I took a textile design and fibers class at CCRI with instructor Maureen Kelman, and was truly inspired. Before the class was over I had already started investing in dyes and supplies to continue working with fabrics.I discovered that special ingredient which makes clothing and fabric an artist's medium and not merely a manufactured necessity. Textile art is very versitile, both in uses and ways to make it! My favorite mediums are pastels, glass, ceramics, and fabrics. I never thought I would find one medium I could delve into completely, but the fabric arts have evolved significantly and It seems I have found my niche.

What Is Shibori?

Shibori is a term used to describe the many resist techniques used in the process of dying fabrics. This art form originated in ancient Japan, but the first dyed fabrics were unearthed from ancient peruvian tombs.

"Shibori" means "To squeeze", which is what takes place in the binding of the fabric in countless ways to resist the dye in certain areas.
